SEIU Local 73 Chapter 119 Bargaining Bulletin
UIUC Management Attempts To Divide Chapter 119 Membership
On October 05, 2007 managements bargaining committee distributed to our
membership a newsletter with their version of the current contract
negotiations;
they failed to show the full picture! The fact is, they left off some of the issues that are important to the membership. Here is the
REAL PICTURE:
| | Chapter 119
| Management |
| Wages | 4% across the board with full retro 37.5 work week Shift differential Longevity pay | 2.5% with retro only to BSWs plus $150.00 signing bonus |
Drug Policy
| Reject
| Allow Supervisors to demand a test antime they see fit |
Bid System
| A fair bid system in F&S | BSW in F&S: Ignores seniority allows management to pick and choose who they want in up to 20 buildings |
| Parking | Rates based on .005% of gross salary | Reject. No counter offer.
|

Management also claims that the Union withdrew a Tentative Agreement reached between the parties on secured bulletin boards.
Once again, the facts are distorted. The Union proposed secured bulletin boards for the exclusive use of the Union. Management agreed but
with the stipulation that the Union has to buy and maintain the boards
BUT
management must be given a key and have access to the boards. The Union
rejected the stipulation therefore a tentative agreement was not
reached.
Management also claims that on August 23, 2007 they
asked the bargaining committee if they would accept the same offer for
the FSWs that they offered to the BSWs and that Union rejected this.
Well, it doesn’t take a genius to figure if the offer was rejected for the BSWs it would also be rejected for the FSWs.
Management keeps stating
“your Union” said this “the Union” did that, it is clear that Management doesn’t grasp the fact that
the UNION is all of us.
The decisions made at the Bargaining Table are decisions made by the
membership through Union meetings and member involvement.
Management better figure
out
that sending a newsletter to our membership that omits and misleads
will not DIVIDE this membership and THEY BETTER TAKE NOTICE BEFORE IT’S
TOO LATE!
