Update for Clerical and Administrative Employees at UIC

Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, our clerical/administrative bargaining committee met with management for the 2nd time in a week. We presented a settlement proposal that covered wages as well as contract language. In recognition of the fact that this bargaining has taken so long, we were accommodating. We even dropped a number of proposals.

Management left the table and returned after less than 15 minutes to tell us how “frustrated” they were that we had not accepted their offer from the week before.

UIC Clerical/Administrative Update & Protest Slideshow

To: Local 73 Members at UIC:

I know it has been several weeks since a regular update.  We lost time after the death of Greg Parran, UIC's chief negotiator for the clerical/administrative bargaining.

Last week, there was a bargaining session for the clerical/administrative contract.  At that meeting, the parties were in agreement in being willing to have a federal mediator to assist in moving the bargaining along.  We will meet again tomorrow to see if we can get any closer before going to the mediator.

At the same time as the negotiations were happening on the 14th, Contract Action Team members travelled to Springfield to attend the Board of Trustees meeting.  Check out this slide show and audio file from the UIUC student newspaper, The Daily Illini about our protest there:

Technical workers are waiting for a response back from management about getting a session scheduled next week.

That's all for now.
